Rodopi: Streets flooded and landslides were caused by heavy rain

Appeal to residents to be particularly careful - Local storms in Thrace in the last hours

Roads flooded roads in many areas of the municipality of Iasmos in Rodopi due to torrential rain in the afternoon hours of Friday 13 September. Landslides have also occurred.

The local website xronos.gr notes that few anti-flood works have been carried out, which are not able to limit the flooding.

Where necessary, people from the Fire Department and the Civil Protection of the Municipality are operating while the extent of the problem and any damage will be recorded after the end of the rain.

Residents are advised to be particularly careful and avoid unnecessary travel. Forecast Weather reports that no movement should be made to Iasmos – Polyanthos – Copto Rhodope.

According to the EMY, clouds are expected for today in Macedonia and Thrace, partly cloudy with local rain and short-duration thunderstorms. The phenomena are likely in Macedonia to be strong in places, but in the evening the weather in most areas will improve. Winds are south southwest 3 to 5 Beaufort and the temperature reaches up to 30 and in western Macedonia up to 25 degrees Celsius. Also, locally intense thunderstorms are noted in Thrace in the last hours.
