Sofia Vergara: The actress’s humorous reaction after losing the Emmy for the fifth time – “I was robbed”

Newsroom September 17 09:00

Sofía Vergara received positive reviews for her portrayal of Griselda in the Netflix series that explores the life of the infamous Griselda Blanco, earning her an Emmy nomination.

However, the Colombian actress, who was a nominee for the fifth time at the 2024 awards for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, lost the award to Jodie Foster for “True Detective: Night Country.”

While many of her fans were disappointed, expressing their thoughts on social media, Vergara had a very different reaction.

The Hollywood star posted a humorous video on her personal Instagram account, jokingly saying in Spanish, “I was robbed of the Emmy for the fifth time,” referencing her previous four nominations for the comedy series “Modern Family.”

Her fans agreed, with one commenting, “You didn’t win the Emmy, but you won our hearts,” while another wrote, “Thank you for being a shining example of Latin American excellence. Your hard work and perseverance inspire us all to chase our dreams and never give up!”

Although she didn’t win the award, Vergara stated that it was an honor to be recognised for Griselda. “I never dreamed that after Modern Family, I would work on something as special as Griselda,” she said after her nomination. “Griselda was my first dramatic role, and it took us 15 years to bring her to life. I am incredibly grateful to everyone involved in the series. I really had to research what it meant to be a woman in that era—a mother, a Colombian woman… who became this monster. So, it was truly a challenging role for me to understand,” the actress told People.
