The “lamb wars” have begun

Holy Week starts with promotions, price cuts and complaints about misleading advertising

Newsroom April 14 06:51

The customary war of Easter deals for lambs among supermarket chains has begun. Marinopoulos group has obtained 120,000 Greek lambs which it will provide in the lowest price for this year, through special deals (and a big partnership with the Proto Thema). The competition, however, plans a “counterattack”.

“No activity on campus after 22:00 — no smoking, alcohol, or late-night gatherings,” says Aristotle University rector

More specifically, German multinational chain LIDL decided to feature lamb offers in its stores. The limited number that the company puts up for sale, which is only a few lambs per store, plus the fact that the company does not have a butcher shop permission, have led to tension, and an intervention is expected on behalf of Ministry of Development, according to sources.

According to reports, LIDL lambs were sold out this morning because of their limited number, creating frustration as market cycles speak of “misleading advertising that aimed to get people into stores without adequate merchandise”.

The rest of the market is expected to move at prices close to 8-9 euros or even over 10 per kilo in neighborhood butcher shops, while the larger groups will have much lower prices, close to 6 euros.
