A few hours ago, the social media marketing team of the British Museum in London uploaded a photo of the Parthenon Marbles on Instagram, accompanied by a description of Room 18, the hall where these masterpieces of the Greek cultural heritage are kept after their snatching by Lord Elgin.

The provocative post caused the wrath of Greek and foreign instagramers, who were very explicit in their criticism against the Museum and its persistence to keep the stolen marbles.
These are only some of the comments that the users left:
“Stop advertising the biggest cheat in human´s modern history”
“Send them back where they belong! To Greece!”
“You can’t steal or buy culture. However, you can prove your culture and your civilization with actions.”

However, these reactions don’t seem to bother the management of the British Museum, whose Director Neil MacGregor told the Times today that there is no possibility the Parthenon Sculptures will be returned to Greece during his tenure.
