Venizelos: The political sacrifice of mutilation was something which we undeniably took for our country’s sake

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister presented to the President of the Republic the comprehensive plan for the country's exit from the memorandum and informed him of the tripartite meeting in Cairo

Newsroom November 10 06:38

Earlier today Mr. Evangelos Venizelos presented to Mr. Papoulias an Integrated plan for the country’s exit from the memorandum. During the meeting the Minister of Foreign Affairs also informed the President of the Republic of the Prime Minister’s visit in Cyprus.
Mr. Venizelos noted that the plan aims to the transition to a new era, while he also revealed that there are efforts made not only with Egypt but also with Italy and Albania.
Among other, he also revealed that the Greek government has invited all countries of the region to accept the UN Convention and its law of the sea and act within accordingly. However, the big problem is Turkey which although is not a member, accepts the validity of customary international law of the sea and this is very important.
The Deputy Prime Minister further stated that: ” The political sacrifice of mutilation was something which we undeniably took for our country’s sake”.
“So the Greek people will judge and evaluate a comprehensive deal, while on the other hand will judge several ambiguities, uncertainties and insecurities “said Mr.Venizelos.
Finally he requested of Mr. Papoulias his consensus and cooperation around the new President of the Republic since according to Mr. Venizelos “we cannot play with institutions”.
