Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, held a press conference on the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

As he pointed out, Hurricane Milton was “notable” but “thankfully it wasn’t the worst-case scenario“. At the same time, he warned that “water levels will continue to rise.”

So far, the confirmed deaths are 4, all in St. Lucie County. Meanwhile, 3.1 million households are still without power in the state.

Florida’s governor said several rivers have reached “flood stage” and that major flooding will continue on the Hillsborough River, the St. Johns River and the Little River.

At least 48 people have been rescued

“National Guard search and rescue teams worked through the night and successfully carried out rescues of families and pets,” DeSantis added.

More than 80,000 people were in shelters overnight as the storm hit the state.

According to Florida’s governor, hundreds of rescuers continue to operate in 26 different counties this morning (local time).
