The Swedish police investigation into the shots near an Israeli-owned site in the city of Göteborg, which public television says is a unit of Israeli defense contractor Elbit Systems.
Police in a statement said there were no injuries. However, a young suspect was arrested at the scene of the incident and a preliminary investigation has been launched into alleged attempted murder and serious weapons-related crimes.
The suspect is under 15 years old, public television SVT and other Swedish media reported, citing anonymous sources.
Some Swedish media, such as Göteborgs-Posten, said it was a 13-year-old.A police spokesman said the juvenile is the only suspect so far.
However, it remains unknown if there are any specific threats against other Israeli-owned sites in the Gothenburg area of southern Sweden.
In May, Swedish police announced that they had tightened security measures around points of Israeli and Jewish interest in the country after officers on patrol heard suspicious gunfire near the Israeli embassy in Stockholm.
A police spokesman declined to comment on whether Elbit is believed to have been targeted. The Israeli Embassy in Stockholm did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Elbit Sweden is a subsidiary of Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit. The company’s facilities in Sweden – as well as its other offices in different countries – have suffered many different kinds of sabotage since Israel launched the war in Gaza after the October 7 terrorist attack
