Several European and international media showed particular interest about the results of the first round of local elections in Greece, with most of them emphasizing that it is a test for the government in view of the European elections of the 25th of May.

The American newspaper Wall Street Journal reoprted the rates obtained by radical Left in the municipality of Athens and Attica, while most European media reported, besides SYRIZA’s results, those of the Golden Dawn.

Austrian newspaper “Der Standard” stresses that Elias Kasidiaris received a very high percentage in Athens, while it indicated the estimates for SYRIZA candidates for Athens and Attica who also received larger percentages than the polls showed.

French newspaper “Liberation”, besides the percentages of the Golden Dawn in the city of Athens, mentioned those of SYRIZA, underlining that even if Mrs Dourou and Mr. Sakellaridis get first place in the first round, will certainly lose in the second round of elections.

“Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, two years after the final end of the Grexit urged Greeks to choose stability for the country. Although SYRIZA has not been able to cash in the general dissatisfaction with the austerity policy in Greece, any  upcoming elections might be the end of the two-party system in Greece after almost four decades”, stated a French newspaper.
