Gerard Piqué has accused Shakira of not being entirely honest about the circumstances of their breakup in a rare interview on the subject, more than two years after they decided to end their relationship.
The 47-year-old Colombian singer announced her split from the 37-year-old former Barcelona soccer star in June 2022, amid rumors that he had cheated on her after 11 years together and two children.
Since then, tensions between them have been high, with Shakira referring to him as “Voldemort,” among other things, and attacking Piqué through her music.

Shortly after they announced their separation, the 37-year-old former athlete moved on with 25-year-old Clara Chía Marti (who also became a target of Shakira), with whom he claims to be “very happy.”
“In the end, the truth or what happens or happened isn’t told in the way it’s said. I can’t control that,” Piqué said in an interview with CNN, as reported by AS.
“The best thing is that, in the end, I’m surrounded by my loved ones, my family, my friends, people who really know you. They know how you are and what you do, and that gives me a lot of peace,” the former athlete added.
He continued: “I’m very happy, I’m having a great time, and I feel privileged. The life I’ve lived, being able to play for the club of my life for over twenty years, [having] great kids, an incredible family, lifelong friends, those from school who I still have.”
Piqué and Shakira share two sons, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.
In 2022, the Spanish newspaper El Periódico reported that the couple had been living apart for a few weeks, with the pop star kicking Piqué out of their home.
There was a theory that Shakira discovered her then-partner’s alleged infidelity after finding that a jar of strawberry jam in their home had been eaten while she was away. Shakira was the only one in the family who ate strawberry jam. However, the South American singer has since denied that speculation.
In the summer of 2023, Piqué reportedly moved in with Clara Chía to the house he had shared with Shakira when she first moved to Barcelona. In January 2023, a video surfaced that allegedly showed Piqué’s new partner in their home before his split from Shakira was announced.
Shakira was reportedly devastated by the clip, which was filmed in August 2021, ten months before she announced her separation from her partner of 11 years.
Clara works as an employee at Piqué’s company, Kosmos.
