PAOK signs Alex Antetokounmpo: Newest addition to the team

Alex Antetokounmpo, the younger brother of NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, has officially joined PAOK

Newsroom October 22 08:45

After beginning the season in Montenegro, Alex left Podgorica and signed with the Greek team PAOK, where he will play until the end of the 2024-25 season. This move sets up a unique rivalry with his brother Kostas, who plays for Panathinaikos, while Giannis and Thanasis are both in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks.

PAOK’s Official Announcement:

“PAOK BC is excited to announce our agreement with basketball player Alex Emeka Antetokounmpo, who will compete with our team for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. We welcome Alex to the PAOK family!”

A Brief Look at Alex’s Career:

Born in Athens on August 27, 2001, Alex is the youngest of the Antetokounmpo brothers and the fourth to play professional basketball after Giannis, Thanasis, and Kostas. Standing at 2.03 meters tall, Alex plays as a forward and will make his debut in the Stoiximan Greek Basketball League (GBL) with PAOK.

Alex Antetokounmpo’s journey in basketball began in the U.S., where he played for Dominican High School. In 2020, despite scholarship offers from prestigious U.S. colleges, Alex chose to begin his professional career in Europe, signing with Spain’s Murcia for the 2020-21 season. He made his ACB debut and shone in the Liga EBA with Murcia’s second team, scoring 28 points in his debut game.

His standout performance came on March 22, 2023, when he scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win against Grand Rapids.

During the 2023-24 season, Alex played 34 games with the Wisconsin Herd, averaging 5.9 points and 3.3 rebounds. He later moved to Lithuania’s Mazeikai, averaging 8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 13 games.
