‘To Potami’ continues its election campaign with two videos entitled “The First Time” starring two women, one young and one older, who are speaking for the first time they were asked to … vote ‘To Potami’. Marilia acknowledges in front of the camera that the first time is very important because it should be with someone you trust, because it is unique, because the moment you enter the room and lift the curtain is the moment the girl becomes a woman, while Agni confesses that, although this is not her first time, she hasn’t done it in a very long time because she couldn’t trust anyone.
The videos have caused a stir within the party. More specifically, the candidate MEP Pericles Vallianos posted a comment on Facebook arguing that “these ads are an insult to any woman with their perverse humor,” adding that “they are against every value for which ‘To Potami’ supposedly stands.”
Talking to protothema.gr, members of ‘To Potami’ commented that they accept Mr Vallianos’ criticism as everyone is entitled to express his personal opinion, but there is no question of withdrawing the video, which is considered very successful. “It fulfilled its purpose, to open the debate on the participation of new voters, especially young women in the electoral process, and we have received thousands of positive messages for Panos Kokkinopoulos’ videos. We’re sorry if they offended anyone, it was in no way our intention for the advertisements to have sexual connotations. We should stress, however that we do not pay attention to malicious criticism from people who did not show the same sensitivity when a member of “Tsipra’s list” posed wearing a bikini”, they commented. It should be noted that Mr Papadimoulis from SYRIZA wrote today on his personal account on Twitter that “To Potami’s video, entitled “The First Time” is vulgar and insulting to women. Theodorakis must withdraw it Immediately.”
The Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Athens went so far as to apologize “for these ourtrageous videos” and to ask Stavros Theodorakis “to unequivocally denounce these disgraceful advertisements and apologize to every woman and every man that felt offended by them.”
