Greek islands are the centre of attention once more and “The Irish Times” published an article on the 10 best Greek islands including information on accommodation, sightseeing, attractions and survival tips.

As the article mentions, there are thousands of beautiful islands in Aegean and Ionian Seas. But, it chose to focus on top 10 Greek islands that charm tourists every year.

1. Crete

The fifth-largest island in the Mediterranean is an ideal destination for family holidays, as the article mentions. It is rich in mythology as the island is the home of the King Minos, Daedalus and Icarus and offers many attractions and sightseeing for the whole family. Also, its amazing beaches will bewitch every tourist.

3. Santorini

The author describes the scenery of Santorini as dramatic, since the island was forged by volcanic activity dating to the 16th century BC and which left three-quarters of the island under water. Also, the article advises readers not to miss the stunning village of Oia which is regarded as one of the most beautiful spots in the world from which to enjoy the sunset.

4. Ιος

Ios took its name after a flower – the violets that carpet the countryside here each spring- and is the place where the poet Homer is buried. According to the author, these days Ios attracts mainly tourists of young age since there are many bars and late-night cafes. However, there are many places of interest to visit and great beaches, too.

7. Corfu

The best-known of the Ionian islands, as the article mentions, which is reckoned by some to be the most beautiful of all Greek islands. The narrow streets of the old town, which are included in the Unesco World Heritage Site list, and the gardens of the Spianada Square are perfect for lazy days of wandering and browsing.

The medieval city of Rhodes is something that no one should miss when visiting the island.
