Kasselakis: 90 proposals submitted for the party name, I will not watch the debate of the 4 SYRIZA because I have obligations

"Capital controls and the referendum are a wound in the history of Syriza. A referendum means that the citizens, the people, vote, so it must be respected"

Around 80-90 proposals were submitted for the name of the party that Stefanos Kasselakis intends to establish, according to him.

“What’s more interesting is that people also filled out the three characteristics they want in the new movement. The number one characteristic, by a wide margin across all ages, professions, and regions, is ‘participatory,’” he said on MEGA on Wednesday morning, adding that about 15 of these proposals will proceed to the three-day voting process he has already announced.

When asked if he would watch today’s debate among the four candidates for SYRIZA’s leadership, he replied that he would not, “because I have scheduled meetings.”

“While they thought I wouldn’t have a second chance in the country, what they’ve managed to achieve is to ensure they probably won’t have a second chance themselves, while we are on an upward trajectory at the moment,” he said regarding SYRIZA.

Regarding Sunday’s elections, he noted, “Those who go to vote this weekend agree with an undemocratic exclusion and undemocratic practices. That is their right. I will fight to ensure they always have the right to participate in whatever they choose.”

According to Kasselakis, the funding for the new party will come from its members, ensuring transparency.

“I Wouldn’t Have Held a Referendum”

Stefanos Kasselakis was also asked about the actions of the Tsipras government, stating, “If I were in Alexis Tsipras’s position, I wouldn’t have held a referendum. The capital controls and the referendum are a wound in SYRIZA’s history. A referendum means the citizens vote, so it must be respected.”

He also called for closure regarding what happened at SYRIZA’s congress, saying it was “a lack of democracy. What I must guarantee in this new beginning is that there will be democratic participation.”
