As many as 10,000 protestors rallied for jailed hunger strike anarchist Nikos Romanos’ right to study at an institute after being successful at his Panhellenic exams. The 21-year-old young man in jail for robbery is demanding to study, however the prosecutor denied this right. Greek comedians, celebrities, the staff of the hospital where he is currently being treated and a large faction of society supports the young man, however his desire to study cannot be facilitated by the Greek prison system.
Last night, following the rally, anarchists got violent on the streets of Exarchia in downtown Athens by smashing cars, destroying public property, setting fire to bins and erecting barracades. At least ten cars were burnt, including one bus.
The police resonded to stone-throwing with tear gas and stun guns. At least 15 people were arrested in the squabbles
