When Vassilis Michaloliakos started his election campaign before Easter, he was considered to be the undisputed winner in Piraeus.
None of the candidates until then appear to threaten his candidacy.
But, everything changed when the nomination of Yannis Moralis was announced accompanied by the support of Vangelis Marinakis, Petros Kokkalis and other prominent economic and social personalities of Pireaus.
However, the initial results were not encouraging for Mr. Moralis. According to information, the results of the first survey showed percentages of single digits for Mr Moralis.
The first opinion poll that was published after Easter and just three weeks before the elections, showed that Mr Michaloliakos was leading by over 15 points.
However, a week before the elections of May 18, a new poll was published showing Mr. Moralis gaining ground and Mr Michaloliakos losing considerable ground.
The final result at the elections showed Yannis Moralis leading by two points, causing great surprise and perhaps the greatest reversal occurred in the modern electoral competitions in Greece.
A combination that came on the scene 40 days before the elections managed to refute all pollsters and today seems to be the overwhelming winner for the Municipality of Piraeus.
As the members of “Piraeus Winner” said “the citizens of Piraeus welcomed our political line, trusted a new group of people with plans and experience and gave them the first place denouncing the policy and work of Vasilis Michaloliakos,”.
