Menis Koumandareas’ murder: Six questions

An enigmatic departure for a man whose work was on the realm of fantasy

Newsroom December 7 09:50

There are many questions concerning the death of author Menis Koumandareas found dead in his apartment at the district of Kypseli on Saturday with marks on his face.

On Friday evening, Mr. Koumandareas had dinner with a friend at a restaurant near his home. At some point he told his friend that he had to go home for five minutes because he had a meeting there. When he didn’t return or answer his phone, is friend rushed to the author’s home and called the police.

1. Did Mr. Koumandareas go home alone and then open the door to his killer or did he enter his house with his killer?

2. What could have been the purpose of the five-minute meeting shortly before midnight? It is hoped that the police search of his cell phone might reveal the answer to this question.

3. Is the murder linked to a statement made by the author himself in October, 2012, when he stated that he had been attacked by an unknown man outside his own home? At the time he had reported that the man had threatened and hit him. He believed that the attacked been linked to his participation at an anti-racist rally.

4. Could his murder be linked to statements he had made on a show on Greek TV stating that a woman might like rape? At the time, a page on FB was set up to shame him though he had said that his comment was made in jest.
