Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will host four European Union leaders from December 21-22 to discuss European security and migration, the Finnish government announced today.

In particular, as reported by the French News Agency, European diplomacy chief Kaya Kalas, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson have been invited by Petteri Orpo to this summit in Saariselka, Lapland. The participation of the Greek Prime Minister is confirmed by competent government sources.

The talks will focus on “the main problems of the European Union in a tense geopolitical situation,” the Finnish government statement said. Defence, Europe’s security, migration, the instrumentalisation of migration and border security will be on the menu of the meeting.

“The summit will be an opportunity to discuss these issues in complete confidentiality and to come up with ideas for new initiatives,” according to the statement.

“Europe must take greater responsibility for its security. This means that European countries must be strong leaders both within the European Union and within the infinite NATO. Our biggest or is Russia, which is trying to consolidate its power and sow discord in Europe,” Petteri Orpo said on Thursday, and his remarks were included in the text of today’s government statement.
