The Italian Prime Minister discussed the issue yesterday at a meeting held at the Government House in Rome

“In January, the government of Georgia Meloni wants to resume the transfer of asylum seekers to the centers Italy set up in northern Albania,” according to Italian public television Rai and much of the press.

The Italian prime minister discussed the whole issue yesterday at a meeting held at Rome’s Palazzo Quiji government palace, which was attended by Interior Minister Matteo Piandozzi, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Defence Minister Guido Crozeto.

“The Supreme Court of our country ruled in favour of our government, in fact, that it is the right of each government to determine which are the safe countries of origin of migrants. The judges can deal with individual cases as far as these countries are concerned, but not to stop the whole set of measures that we have approved,” the Italian prime minister said.

The whole issue was also referred to by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who stressed that “in today’s meeting reference was again made to the commitment of the Italian government to follow a course whose importance was also recognised by the European Union. We will proceed with great seriousness and sobriety with the aim of combating human traffickers, respecting Community rules,” Tajani added.
