On the day of the elections, Nigel Farage opened up to the leader of the far-right “National Front” party of France, Marine Le Pen, while he anticipated that his party, the Independence Party (UKIP) will come first in European elections. Although he clarified that his party will not officially join forces with the far-right National Front of France, he emphasized that in the European Parliament his party will be on the same side as that of Le Pen, the side of eurosceptics. Mr Farage also expressed the belief that anti-European parties could claim even the 1/3 of the seats of the European Parliament enabling them to form, as he said, a minority that will block the European decisions and institutions.

The party of Farage, like the far-right Freedom Party of Netherlands led by Geert Wilders who is a powerful ally of Marine Le Pen, has great chances to come first in the European elections while opinion polls show an “explosion” of Euroscepticism across Europe.

Meanwhile, in Germany, the Nazi political formation, National Democratic Party (NPD), which is described by the intelligence services of Germany as “racist, anti-Semitic” and inspired by a tendency of “revising history”, can elect up to three Members of the European Parliament thanks to an amendment of the electoral system.

“Die Welt” and “Bild” consider NPD so extreme that it is believed that it will not find very easily allies in European Parliament mainly because of Germany’s efforts to outlaw NPD and the country’s sensitivity for its Nazi past.
