Business Insider: “Greece is on the brink of chaos!”

Crossing chaos is no easy feat for the Greek government

Newsroom December 17 10:22

Business Insider likens the Greek presidential elections to the clash of the Titans as Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras waits to face the first of three rounds of a presidential vote that will determine whether Greek parliament will dissolve. The first and second rounds of voting on December 17 and December 23 are expected to mark failure for the government as it is unlikely they will get the support of 200 deputies that is required in the 300-seat house. All eyes, however are focused on the third round on December 29 where 180 deputies are needed.

The article states that both the conservative New Democracy Government and the Radical Left SYRIZA party that accuses him of scare-mongering and blackmail are currently gripped in a battle to win over a pool of about two dozen independent MPs whose votes will decide the outcome. SYRIZA spokesperson Panos Skourletis accused Mr. Samaras as being an “architect of chaos, who invests in a climate of fear-mongering.”

The scene has all the trappings of a Clash of the Titans. The article is illustrated with Alexander Litovchenko’s 19th-century interpretation of Charon’s crossing on the River Styx to show the passage of the Greek elections.
