Fire in Los Angeles: Outrage over 29-year-old Canadian YouTuber’s selfie – “I left New York because it was cold and everything is burning here”

After the sensation Meg DeAngelis tried to "clean up" with a new photo

Newsroom January 10 07:17

29-year-old YouTuber Meg DeAngelis from Canada’s post about the Los Angeles fire caused outrage. She captioned the selfie, “I left New York because it was cold, but now everything is burning here.”

Most of the commenters accused her of insensitivity as thousands of homes have burned and thousands of people have been on the street at the same time.

“Oh my god, girl look at what’s going on”, “It’s so “hot” here because thousands of houses have burned down and people have died… silly”, “It’s crazy for people who don’t work and never have to leave their house to write things like that”, “no need to say how insensitive you are for making comments like that about the fires” were some of the comments about DeAngelis.

People “slammed” her for not using her name recognition to inform her followers about the disaster in Los Angeles.

“It’s so scary and stupid of you. My friend’s house burned down, and people have died. Not to mention the animals that were killed. I want to punch her,” was another of the angry comments about the YouTuber. “What else can we expect from an anonymous influencer?” “If you don’t have any useful information for people being tested, why would you post like this?” the comments continued.

After the uproar, DeAngelis made a new post attempting to “wrap up” what she had written earlier. “In all seriousness, this breaks my heart. My thoughts to everyone who has been affected. I am so sad for what you are going through,” she wrote with a photo of the burned areas.
