Looting spree in Los Angeles: People won’t leave their homes to avoid being robbed – National Guard on the streets and curfew

Videos of robbers breaking into homes - Complaints of inadequate policing - Fines of up to $1,000 or up to six months in jail for those violating curfew

Newsroom January 10 06:19

Images of apocalypse after the firestorm in Los Angeles, as ten people have lost their lives, while thousands of acres and homes have been torched, with experts warning that will not be extinguished unless the weather changes.

However, amidst all this tragic situation, there were those who looted the ruins and abandoned houses.

The perpetrators enter the houses and snatch whatever they find in front of them. In fact, it has been reported that by yesterday (9/1) there had been 20 arrests made by the authorities, however there are many more perpetrators. It is worth noting that hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes.

As Newsweek reports, troops from the California National Guard are participating in the anti-looting operation.

The Osint Defender wrote in X: “The California National Guard military police arrived at Ontario International Airport to assist law enforcement.”

At the end of the day, the United States Air Force has just arrived in the United States to provide assistance to the United States Air Force in the United States to help with the police investigation.

It is currently unclear how long the National Guard and other security forces will remain in Los Angeles.

Residents fear leaving their homes

Some Los Angeles residents say they are afraid to leave their homes as they fear looting.

Allison Agsten, a Los Angeles resident, told local news station KTLA: “We see cars pulling up in front of houses and men running down our street and going to the doors of these houses.”

Madisen Keavy, a reporter for KCAL, also said, “From the cameras we saw three men on scooters attempting to break into the house but immediately turn around when they saw the police.”.

According to the Daily Mail, the wealthy in Los Angeles have hired private security companies to protect their homes.

Curfew

Authorities have announced a curfew to see if they can control the looting.

Specifically, according to the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna on Thursday announced several measures to enhance security in areas evacuated due to the devastating wildfires.

“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has formally requested the support of the California National Guard for both fires,” Luna said.

The sheriff also said the department is working to implement a curfew that will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. “within the specific areas around the two fires,” he said, referring to the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades and the Eaton Fire.

According to what the sheriff said, the curfew will definitely be in effect until Friday night.

Anyone caught violating the curfew could face a fine of up to $1,000 or a jail sentence of up to six months.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Catherine Barger stressed that the curfew was not done to punish residents, but to keep the area safe and that it was requested by the Altadena City Council.

He also said authorities have arrested people in the evacuated zones.

“Shame on those who are taking advantage of our residents during this time of crisis,” he said.

Videos have been posted online and on social media showing men entering homes and snatching items of value, however there is no visual footage officially released by authorities.

Meanwhile, a woman complained to a channel that she has seen many people breaking into houses in her area, yet there is no policing to arrest them.

“My husband saw some of them in neighbouring houses and shouted at them: what are you doing there,” the woman told a local channel, among other things.
