Water vortex appears in Folegandros – Watch the stunning video

The water vortex was seen by the island residents in Ano Mera

Newsroom January 14 10:00
An impressive natural phenomenon occurred in Upper Mera, Folegandros, where a hydrophone appeared over the sea, captivating onlookers.

Hydrophones, also known as waterspouts, are vertical vortices that form beneath storm clouds and extend toward the water’s surface, typically over marine areas. While these phenomena are more common in tropical regions or areas with high thermal contrasts, they are not unheard of in the Mediterranean.

The striking event in Folegandros was captured on video by cyclades24.gr, showcasing the rare sight as it unfolded today.
