After the conclusion of the second vote for the election of a President of the Republic, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras made the following statement:

“Despite the ideological differences and the mudslinging and intimidation campaign of Tsipras (SYRIZA leader) and Kammenos (ANEL leader), more deputies decided today to support Stavros Dimas candidacy for President of the Republic.

“Hopefully, in the third round of the elections, the Greek Parliament will manage to avert a national danger,” said the Prime Minister, adding that each deputy will be faced with the Greek people’s anxiety and will be forced to decide based on the best interest of the country.
