A powerful solar flare which occurred on December 19th was recorded by telescopes of NASA, and the pictures are beautiful!
The harmful radiation of such an explosion cannot penetrate the Earth’s “shield”, to harm humans on the planet’s surface or endanger astronauts on the ISS. But it can create problems for satellites, radio systems, GPS system, as well as terrestrial electricity networks.
In September, NASA telescopes recorded a strong solar flare, the strongest for several years.
Solar flares are classified into three categories: C (weakest), M (medium) and X (strong). The current, X 1.6 although very strong, is far from the “beastly” X4.9 which happened on February.
