Skiers headed to the French Alps resorts were faced with chaos since 15.000 cars were immobilized on the streets due to the snow and  tourists were forced to spend the night in emergency shelters.

Thousands of people were also trapped in their cars, in shelters on the mountains and in airports.

A 27 year old was killed yesterday afternoon on a road near Chambery when his car slid because of the snow and fell from a height of 200 meters.

Approximately 2.063 people mainly British remained trapped at the airport, while 120 tourists were taken to the town hall.

Meanwhile, the movement of ferries between Calais in northern France and Dover in southern England has stopped.
