Varvakeios, Renti Market and farmers' markets on Clean Monday - What hours they are open - What applies to supermarkets

The Varvakeios Market is open today for supplies for the Sarakostian table. The fish market will close at 6 PM for restocking and will reopen at 9 PM for the traditional all-night operation until midday on Clean Monday. The Consumer Market in Renti will also be open. Tomorrow, the farmers’ markets will operate as usual.

As Clean Monday approaches, those who wish to purchase fresh seafood and fasting products can visit Varvakeios, the Renti Market, or the farmers’ markets.

Varvakeios Market – Renti Market: Operating Hours on Clean Monday 2025

  • Varvakeios Market: Open from 9:00 PM on Sunday until late midday on Clean Monday.
  • Renti Market: Open from Sunday morning until Monday afternoon.

Farmers’ Markets

Farmers’ markets will operate normally as scheduled and offer an opportunity to buy fresh products for the Sarakostian table.

How the Renti Market Will Operate

The Consumer Market at the Central Market and Fishery Organization (OKAA) will be open from Sunday morning until Monday afternoon.

According to OKAA, all shops—except for the butcher shop, which will be closed on Clean Monday but open on Sunday—will remain open from Sunday morning until late at night or even overnight until midday on Clean Monday, depending on each business’s operating hours.

Some businesses will close at 12 PM, and by 5 PM, all will have shut down.

Clean Monday – Supermarket Hours

For last-minute shopping, most supermarkets will be closed on Clean Monday, but some will be open with limited hours.

Open supermarkets include:

  • LIDL, My Market, AB Vassilopoulos at Spata Airport, and AB Shop & Go.
  • LIDL stores, according to their posted schedule, will be open from 7:45 AM to 2:00 PM.
  • Some My Market locations (not all) will operate with reduced hours, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Additionally, OK MARKET, mini markets, grocery stores, bakeries, and pastry shops will also be open.
