Increased in 2024 the number of deaths from traffic accidents in Western Greece and Peloponnese – Detailed data

During the year there were 422 road accidents in Western Greece, where 52 people died and 559 were seriously or slightly injured

According to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority presented by the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, more deaths in road accidents were recorded in 2024 compared to 2023 on the road networks of the regions of Western Greece and Peloponnese.

Also, in the Region of Western Greece, the number of injured people and road accidents increased. On the contrary, in the Region of Peloponnese, the number of injuries and traffic accidents decreased.

In particular, in 2024, there were 422 road accidents and accidents in all three regional units of Western Greece (Aitoloakarnania, Achaia, Ilia), where 52 people died and 559 were seriously or slightly injured.

In 2023, there were 398 traffic accidents and crashes, in which 45 people had lost their lives and a total of 480 were injured.

In the five regional units of the Peloponnese (Argolida, Arcadia, Corinthia, Laconia, Messinia) in 2024, 256 road accidents were recorded, in which 52 people died and 292 were seriously or slightly injured.

In the previous year, 269 road accidents and crashes were recorded, in which 42 people had lost their lives and a total of 300 were injured.

In the Region of Western Greece

In more detail, according to the data of the Greek Statistical Authority, the most traffic accidents and accidents in the region of Western Greece in 2024 occurred in August, when they reached 53, and the least in March, where 19 were recorded.

The highest number of fatalities was recorded in June, when they reached 8, and the lowest in July, with 1 victim.

The most seriously injured were recorded in August, where there were 8, while in January there were no serious injuries.

The highest number of light injuries was recorded in August, when they reached 67, and the lowest in March, with 24 injured.

Also, according to the National Statistics Authority, the data per regional unit of Western Greece for 2024, compared to 2023, are as follows:

*In Atoloakarnania, in 2024, 181 traffic accidents occurred, resulting in the deaths of 14 people and serious injuries to 16, while the number of slightly injured reached 225.

In 2023, there had been 186 traffic accidents and crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities, 14 seriously injured, and 217 slightly injured.

*In Akhaia, in 2024, 160 traffic accidents and crashes were recorded, where 21 people had died, while 13 people were seriously injured and 210 others were slightly injured.

In 2023, 150 traffic accidents and crashes were recorded, in which 16 people had lost their lives, while 9 people were seriously injured, and another 167 were slightly injured.

*In Ilia, in 2024, there were 81 traffic accidents and crashes, in which 17 people died and 6 were seriously injured, while 89 were slightly injured.

In 2023, there had been 62 road accidents and crashes, in which 13 people had died and 13 were seriously injured, while the number of slightly injured had reached 69.

As can be seen from the above data, most deaths were recorded in Achaia, and the highest number of injured and traffic accidents in Aitoloakarnania.

In the Region of Peloponnese

According to the data of the Hellenic Statistical Authority, the most traffic accidents and accidents in the region of Peloponnese in 2024 occurred in August, when they reached 36, and the least in February, where 11 were recorded.

The highest number of deaths was recorded in July, with 9 fatalities, while the lowest was in March and November, with 2 fatalities each month.

The most seriously injured were recorded in February, July, and December, with three injured each month, while there were no serious injuries in March.

The highest number of light injuries were recorded in August, when they reached 51, and the lowest in February with 5 injured.

At the same time, according to the National Statistics Authority, the data for 2024, compared to those of 2023, by regional unit of the Peloponnese, are as follows:

*In Argolida, 25 traffic accidents occurred in 2024, resulting in the death of 5 people and serious injuries to 4, while the number of slightly injured reached 21.

In 2023, there have been 45 traffic accidents and crashes, resulting in 7 fatalities, 2 serious injuries, and 44 slight injuries.

*In Arcadia, in 2024, 39 road accidents and crashes were recorded, in which 7 people had died, while 2 people were seriously injured and 48 others were slightly injured.

In 2023, 38 road accidents and crashes were recorded, in which 10 people had lost their lives, while 7 people were seriously injured, and 41 others were slightly injured.

*In Corinthia, in 2024, there were 114 traffic accidents and crashes, in which 17 people died and 5 were seriously injured, while the number of slightly injured reached 125.

In 2023, there had been 103 traffic accidents and crashes, in which 10 people had lost their lives and 13 were seriously injured, while the number of slightly injured had reached 110.

There were 110 and 110 injured.
*In Laconia, in 2024, there were 18 traffic accidents and crashes, which resulted in 5 people losing their lives and 1 person being seriously injured, while the slightly injured were 22.

In 2023, there have been 16 road accidents and crashes, resulting in 2 fatalities, 16 slightly injured, and no serious injuries recorded.

*In Messinia, in 2024, 60 traffic accidents and crashes were recorded, where 18 people died, 8 people were seriously injured, and 56 others were slightly injured.

According to the above data, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Messinia, and the highest number of injuries and traffic accidents was in Corinthia.
