Newsroom March 7 07:03

Just 1.5 kilometers from Sparta, three students and friends tragically lost their lives during their evening walk, as the Mini Cooper they were in crashed into a tree.

The 24-year-old Socrates Roumeliotis from Mystras was the driver of the car, while his companions were 21-year-old Giorgos Kapelonis from Athens and 21-year-old Panagiotis Zagarelos from Amaliada. The three friends worked at a central café in Sparta and were also students in the city.

At the time of the tragic accident, another car with the girls, friends of the three young men who lost their lives, was following behind the Mini Cooper. According to notospress, the young women suddenly saw the Mini Cooper disappear, with a wheel flying into the air, realizing that something tragic had happened.

All Three died instantly, said the Father of 21-year-old killed in tragic crash

A nightmarish scene unfolded in the early hours at Sparta General Hospital, where the bodies of three young men were taken following a fatal car accident in Mystras.

The victims, two 21-year-old passengers and the 24-year-old driver, lost their lives instantly when their vehicle crashed into a tree on the Sparta-Mystras provincial road. Traffic police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the crash.

Among the victims was 21-year-old Giorgos, a student in Athens who also worked as a waiter alongside his two friends. He had traveled to Sparta to reunite with them for a trip, unaware of the tragic fate that awaited them.

Speaking to Protothema.gr, the father of the deceased young man insisted that neither his son nor the driver consumed alcohol, and all three victims had been wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

“They were driving back, and suddenly the car veered off. No one knows how. And all three of them died instantly. My son was a student in Athens and worked together with his friends. They were very close. From what I heard, they were just taking a drive toward Mystras. My son didn’t drink, nor did the others. The driver didn’t drink either, as far as I know. We learned they were all wearing seat belts, so you can imagine how violent the impact was,” he said, describing the devastating loss.
