Greece’s biggest toy retailer, Jumbo, recorded higher mid-year sales on Thursday due to exports to Bulgaria that managed to offset flat results on the domestic market. The toy producer saw group sales rise by 7.7% to 341 million euros for the six months to December 31.
The local retailer had seen impressive results in the first quarter, however it suffered a setback towards the end of the year due to political instability within the country that triggered national elections on January 25.
Jumbo has 53 stores in Greece, 17 in Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania. It had done well for itself despite six years of recession and has opened four stores in Greece since July with plans to open two more outlets in Greece and Romania by June.
