Egypt submitted a new proposal last week aimed at restoring the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, sources from security services told Reuters today.

The proposal was drafted after Israel resumed its aerial and ground operations against Hamas in the Palestinian enclave last week, effectively putting an end to the fragile ceasefire that had been in place since January 19.

According to the sources, the Egyptian plan foresees Hamas releasing five Israeli hostages each week, with Israel implementing the second phase of the agreed ceasefire after the first week.

Both the United States and Hamas have accepted the proposal, the sources emphasized, but Israel has not yet responded. Based on available information, the Egyptian proposal includes a timeline for the release of all hostages in exchange for a timeline for Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza.

Hamas accuses Israel of violating the terms of the ceasefire agreement but has stated that it is open to negotiations and is reviewing the proposal put forward by US envoy Steve Whitkoff.
