French nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle departed today from the port of Toulon, located in the north of France, in order to reinforce the French forces already fighting against the Islamic State in the Persian Gulf.
The large vessel will reportedly take part to coalition air strikes against ISIS. Although the news of the 38,000 tonne carrier’s participation in the war against the extremist organization went viral on January 7, the decision for Charles-de-Gaulle’s operation was taken long before the deadly terrorist attacks in France, which caused the death of 17 people.
