Conservative New Democracy (ND) Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is focused on his pre-election campaign following his visit to the municipality of Peristeri, northwest of Athens, on Thursday. His efforts are now centered on exposing the contradictions in statements made by main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) deputies. He points to gaping holes in the SYRIZA party’s economic plans for Greece.

Mr. Samaras’ main goal is to court the 10% of undecided voters who are pro-European, according to polls. He is flaunting the dangers of conflict with the European Union and is showcasing his own proposals. The premier stresses the need for forging alliances within parties and within Europe, and states, at every available opportunity, that the ND would continue to work with parties that would European-friendly even if it receives a win that would allow it to be autonomous in the next elections.

On Thursday, he accused SYRIZA of seeking to collaborate with the Greek Communist Party (KKE) and leftist ANTARSYA that are not pro-European before the party was turned down. Mr. Samaras believes that SYRIZA is incapable of successfully co-operating with other parties.

The prime minister plans to continue visiting targetted areas, such as Peristeri. He is pleased with the outcome of his visit despite minor episodes noted in the region. A visit is scheduled for Kalamata, the Peloponnese, on Sunday whereas on Wednesday the premier will head to Thessaloniki before ending his campaign with a central talk in Athens.

The last piece of his ad campaign, with himself as protagonist, will be telecast next week with a focus on “the next day.” Interviews are limited and Mr. Samaras has not changed his mind after turning down a debate with Mr. Tsipras.
