An unprecedented incident of bickering, shoving, and violence occurred at noon on Friday at the Chania Urban Planning Department, on the occasion, according to zarpanews.gr, urban planning violations found in a large hotel under construction.
More specifically, three engineers of the hotel entered the department asking for explanations in a strong manner as to the violations, while the remarks of the officials were considered “provocation,” to which they responded with pushing and swearing.
A few minutes after the initial episode ended, one of the three engineers returned to the planning office, found the official, and, after a verbal confrontation, attacked him with fists and found a machete, which he even broke in two.
Deputy Mayor Nikos Hazirakis got involved in the incident to defend the employee, and apart from the physical assaults, the hot-blooded hotel surveyor threw a container filled with coffee at him.
Police immediately arrived at the scene, but the alleged assailant had already left. The department will be filing charges in this regard.
