The Prime Minister will meet today President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias and the leader of PASOK

What is more important now for Mr Samaras is the government stability and he denies the possibility of government reshuffling and change the electoral law.

Prime Minister will meet the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias at noon whereas in the afternoon he will meet the president of PASOK Mr. Evangelos Venizelos with which he will discuss the developments and the steps that the government has to take following the result of elections.

During his meeting with the President Papoulias, the Prime Minister will highlight that the government has received the message that citizens sent through their vote, but there is no question of early elections. He will stress the importance of government stability as a guarantee for the safe course of the country towards the exit from the crisis and the debt sustainability.

The meeting with Mr. Venizelos will be more challenging. Although the colleagues of the Prime Minister say “only good words about Vangelis and that he supports the government”, it is clear that the day after the elections there is a disagreement. Mr. Venizelos seems now to be more optimist about the course of his party due to the recent election result which did not lead to its political death. PASOK opened immediately the issue of government reshuffling and it is said that he asked for eight ministries and objected to specific persons. Also he raised the issue of electoral law change according to which the bonus of 50 seats for the first party will be reduced to 30.

Regarding the government reshuffling, Prime Minister believes that it cannot be done as long as the Greece has the Presidency of the EU whereas for the issue of changing the electoral law he categorically rejects it.

New democracy watches carefully the developments occurred in other parties, mainly in Democratic Left and Independent Greeks which encounter many problems due to the bad results they got in elections. Although they do not intervene in any way, they do not exclude that there might be certain conditions in the future to enhance the parliamentary majority of the government. “We will not make a move so as to avoid being accused of plundering parties, but if some members want to support the government by voting for the bills, they are welcomed to do so” associates of the Prime Minister said.
