According to reports, the National Security Council (KYSEA) decided yesterday to deploy Hellenic Navy frigates south of Crete.
The contribution of the Navy is expected to serve as a strong deterrent against human traffickers, who appear to be non-compliant despite ongoing operations by the Hellenic Coast Guard.
The strengthening of Greece’s presence in Libya through the armed forces is expected to be supportive, without overshadowing the work of the Coast Guard, which is already conducting daily operations in the field.
It is worth noting that the frigate HS Themistocles, which is participating in the European operation “Irini,” is also present in the wider area.
