The Risk Assessment Committee was convened this morning by the Secretary General of Civil Protection, Nikos Papaevstathiou. The subject of the meeting was strengthening winds and high temperatures
Maximum temperatures for today, Tuesday, and tomorrow, Wednesday, in the Eastern Continental regions will reach 39 to 40 degrees and locally 41 degrees. On Thursday, the temperature will drop significantly.
In addition, as stated in the updated Emergency Weather Bulletin (EDEK) issued today, Tuesday 08 July 2025, by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), very high temperatures are forecast in the eastern part of the country until tomorrow, while strong winds will gradually prevail from Wednesday noon (09-07-25).
Temperatures:
Today, Tuesday (08-07-25), maximum temperatures will reach:
a) 39 to 40 degrees Celsius in the eastern mainland and in Thessaly, eastern Sterea, and eastern Peloponnese, locally 41 degrees Celsius.
b) in the western mainland, mainly in the western Peloponnese, 37 to 38 degrees Celsius.
c) 34 to 35 degrees Celsius on the Ionian islands.
d) in the islands of the Eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese, and locally in Crete, 37 to 38 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday (09-07-25), a slight drop in temperatures is expected in the Ionian Sea and the western mainland, while in the eastern mainland and the Aegean Sea temperatures will remain high. Maximum values will reach:
a) in the eastern mainland, 38 to 40 degrees Celsius and in the eastern Sterea and the eastern Peloponnese, probably locally 41 degrees Celsius.
b) in the islands of the Eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and Crete, locally 37 to 38 and probably 39 degrees Celsius.
It should be noted that:
A. In the coastal areas of the mainland, the maximum temperature will be 2 to 4 degrees lower than the temperature in the interior of mainland Greece.
Β. The relative humidity will be low (typically 20% to 30% during the midday hours in the interior of the mainland).
C. Minimum temperatures on Wednesday in urban centres will remain high and will be around 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
Winds:
α) Strong westerly winds will blow from noon on Wednesday (09-07-25) in the central and southern mainland.
b) Very strong northwesterly winds will prevail from Wednesday afternoon (09-07-25) in the Ionian Sea and the western mainland and from early evening in western and central Macedonia, Thessaly, and the Sporades.
c) Very strong northeasterly winds will prevail on Wednesday night (09-07-25) to Thursday (10-07-25) in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean.
