Mystery over child found dead in Palaio Faliro: Coast Guard issues urgent appeal for information (updated)

In an official statement, the Coast Guard is asking anyone who might know anything about the child’s identity or family to come forward

Newsroom July 27 10:35

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying the child, as no one has reported her missing so far.

The Greek Coast Guard is asking for any information about the little girl found dead on the beach in Palaio Faliro. The child, a girl around 3 years old, has not yet been identified or reported as missing.

In an official statement, the Coast Guard urges anyone who might know anything about the child’s identity or her family to come forward. “Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial. Complete confidentiality is guaranteed,” the announcement reads.

Full statement from the Coast Guard:

“Early in the morning on Sunday, July 27, 2025, the body of a young girl, approximately 3 to 3.5 years old, was found in the sea area off Edem Beach in Palaio Faliro. She was wearing a long-sleeved, one-piece turquoise swimsuit. She had short brown hair, a slim build, and tanned skin.

We urge anyone who may know anything about the identity of the child, her family, or anything that could help shed light on this case to contact the 1st Coast Guard Department of Floisvos at 210-9829759 or the Saronic Coast Guard Station at 210-8946326.

Even the smallest detail could prove crucial. Full confidentiality is guaranteed.”

“There were quite a few people on the beach when the little girl was found dead at 3:30 AM”

An eyewitness said there were people on the beach at the time the girl was discovered.
“I came around 3 AM for a night swim, and at about 3:30 I noticed police lights. The officers arrived on foot. I was about 100 meters away when they shone their lights on the sand — there was a small girl, wearing a one-piece swimsuit. An ambulance came, they covered her with a blanket, and took her away,” Mr. Marios told SKAI.

According to him, “the child’s death appeared fairly recent.”
“About 10 meters from the girl, there were three people sitting nearby, Arabic speakers, and no one else close by. But the beach had a good number of people. Based on her features, I don’t think the child was Greek,” he added.
“Even though people were near her, when the police arrived, no one was actually attending to the child. Only that group of three was close by,” he said.

She wasn’t wearing floaties

The lifeless body was discovered by a man of Egyptian origin, who immediately called emergency services (112). Police officers from the 1st Coast Guard Department of Faliro arrived at the scene, and an ambulance transported the child to a children’s hospital. A forensic examination and autopsy are pending to determine the exact cause of death.

The child was wearing a zip-up one-piece swimsuit and was not wearing arm floaties. There were no visible signs of abuse, but it remains unclear how she ended up alone in the sea or how exactly she died.

It’s worth noting that, as of now, no missing child reports match the girl’s description — a fact that makes the investigation even more difficult. Police are reviewing missing persons records, but the child’s identity remains unknown.

A little girl aged about three years old was found dead on Eden Beach in Paleo Faliro early Sunday morning, but has not yet been identified or reported missing.

The lifeless body of the child was spotted at around 04:00 by a passing man of Egyptian origin, who immediately alerted 112. Police officers of the first port authority of Faliro immediately rushed to the spot, while an ambulance of the ambulance service transported the little girl to the Children’s Hospital. Pending the necropsy and necropsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The child was wearing a full-zip bathing suit and was not wearing armbands. There are no obvious signs of abuse, and it remains unknown how he was found alone in the sea and under what circumstances he died.

It is worth noting that up to this point, no missing child has been reported that matches the girl’s characteristics, which complicates the authorities’ investigations. Police are reviewing the lists of missing persons; however, the identity of the victim remains unknown.
