A heavy downpour on Thursday morning in Thessaloniki turned streets into rivers, particularly in the Vardaris area. The intense rainfall caused severe flooding in central roads, including Lagkada Street, which became a torrent, making vehicle movement extremely difficult.
Shop owners near the courthouse district came out with brooms to sweep away water that was threatening to enter their stores. Traffic police were called to respond to collisions involving property damage and vehicles skidding off the road.
A video from Radio Thessaloniki shows the Vardaris intersection completely flooded:

At the same time, the force of the water dislodged a manhole cover near the Dodekaorofa (Twelve-Story Buildings area).
The rain caused significant traffic chaos across Thessaloniki, including a car accident on the ring road. Fortunately, only material damage was reported.
According to initial reports, at around 08:20 AM in the westbound lane near Eptapyrgio, two cars collided without any injuries being recorded.
