The captain of the ferry boat that ran aground in a dry dock at Nea Styra in Evia was charged today. He is being held in custody at the Port Authority of Chalkida and has claimed that the ship’s rudders got stuck and at the same time he did not see the dry dock.
It is noted that he has been passing by this point more than 20 times a day for the last 4 years.
Regarding the ship, on Thursday evening, the process of detachment was completed and the ship was towed to the fishing shelter of Nea Styra. 1 vessel of the Coast Guard, 2 tugboats and 1 anti-fouling vessel of the Coast Guard were mobilized.
Meanwhile, the ferry company for the Panagia Paravuniotissa ferry, issued a statement last night highlighting, among other things, that: “The ferry company reserves its rights with regard to any unfavourable/defamatory comments, unfounded complaints and other actions that have taken place in recent days. All will be responded to in due course and after the inconvenience to passengers has come to an end.”
