Weather: The week starts with instability and a drop in temperature – Where will it rain

The weather instability in Greece is intensifying today, according to the latest forecast data from meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens. Showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly in the afternoon in the mountainous continental areas, where there is a possibility of hailstorms and occasionally stronger wind gusts. The phenomena are expected to be locally strong in southwestern Epirus, western Thessaly and central and western Central Greece.

It is noted that the instability is expected to continue on Tuesday 19/08.

Today’s weather

Cloudy skies are expected, increasing in places. Showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly in the midday and afternoon in the mountainous mainland, where there is a possibility of hail and occasional strong gusty winds. The phenomena are expected to be locally strong in Southwestern Epirus, Western Thessaly and Central and Western Central Greece.

The temperature in Western Macedonia will range from 16 to 30 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 19 to 35, in Thessaly from 21 to 36, in Epirus from 17 to 29, in Central Greece and the Peloponnese from 18 to 35, in the Ionian islands from 20 to 31, in the North and East Aegean islands from 17 to 34, in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese from 18 to 33 and in Crete from 17 to 34 degrees Celsius.

Winds in the Central and North Aegean will blow from variable directions from 2 to 4 Beaufort. In the South Aegean the winds will blow from westerly directions 3 to 5 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea the winds will blow from west to northwest directions 2 to 4 Beaufort.

In Attica, initially sunny with a few local clouds are expected, but from noon they will increase and there is a possibility of occasional, sporadic rain, mainly in the north of the prefecture. Winds will blow from variable directions from 2 to 4 Beaufort. The temperature in the center of Athens will range from 24 to 34 degrees Celsius.

In the prefecture of Thessaloniki, local clouds are expected, which will increase from noon and there will be occasional, local rains. Winds will blow from variable directions from 2 to 4 Beaufort. The temperature in the center of Thessaloniki will range from 24 to 33 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Tuesday, August 19

In central, eastern Macedonia and Thrace a few clouds are forecasted, partly increasing with local rain and mainly in the midday – afternoon hours there will be thunderstorms. In the rest of the country, generally clear weather with occasional clouds in the midday – afternoon hours on the mainland where there will be local rain and isolated thunderstorms mainly in the mountains.

Winds will blow in the west northwest 3 to 5 Beaufort, in the east from the north 4 to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will reach 30 to 32 degrees Celsius in most areas, locally in the central mainland 33 to 34 degrees Celsius and in the Sporades and Cyclades 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Wednesday, August 20

Generally clear weather with local clouds in the midday – afternoon hours on the mainland where local rain will probably occur in the mountains.

Winds will blow in the west northwest 3 to 5 Beaufort, in the east from the north 4 to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly in the southeast.

The weather on Thursday, August 21

Generally clear weather with a few occasional clouds in the north in the midday – afternoon hours.

Winds will blow in the northern Ionian Sea from southerly directions 3 to 4 Beaufort and in the rest from northerly directions 4 to 5 and in the Aegean Sea locally up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise.

In the northern Ionian Sea and the northwestern mainland clouds are forecasted in the morning hours with the possibility of local rain until noon and gradually clear. In the rest of the country generally clear weather with a few occasional clouds in the north in the midday – afternoon hours.

Winds will blow in the northern Ionian and northwestern Aegean from southerly directions 3 to 4 Beaufort. In the rest of the Aegean Sea from northern directions 4 to 5 and in the southern Aegean Sea locally up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly further.
