It was the turn of SYRIZA parliamentary spokesman Thanasis Petrakis on Thursday to lob the party’s latest “bombshell” proposal at Europe, when he cited the prospect of the leftist Greek government suspending the Schengen pact in order to address the problem of illegal migrants continuing to stream into Greece.
Petrakos recalled a previous statement by minister Yiannis Panousis, who warned European partners that “if we don’t reach an understanding, we will need to examine certain unilateral actions.”
Panousis, the deputy minister of citizen’s protection (the home minister), last month raised the issue of Athens suspending the pact.
