The Greek restaurant Platon in Düsseldorf earned its “15 minute of fame” this week after several German publications, including Der Spiegel and Stern, referred to a hateful letter the establishment received, and which was duly posted on the eatery’s FB page.
Platon owner Christina Dora told the private Athens TV station MEGA that she has subsequently received a number of anonymous threats and prejudiced comments, although she went out of her way to emphasize that most of the German residents in her area supported her and the restaurant.
“German citizens support us,” she said, contrary to the content of the initial venomous letter that drew the media spotlight.
The specific letter in question claims that Greeks are lazy and living at the expense of other hard-working countries, while the Greek government behaves like a “brazen mob of jerks with no manners”.
Several German media published reports condemning the “poison pen” mail.
