As meteorologist Kostas Lagouvardos notes in a post, “The latest high-resolution satellite image of Mornos (taken on 10/10/2025) records a slight decrease in the lake’s surface (8.3 sq. km) compared to the previous image we analyzed and published on 24/09/2025 (8.4 sq. km).”

This means the lake’s surface is now 44% below the average for October (based on the period 2016–2024).
Regarding rainfall, Mr. Lagouvardos points out that “despite rainfall in early October, the total annual rainfall for 2025 in the area is currently the lowest it has been in the past 10 years.”
