James Norton to play Beatles manager Brian Epstein

Sam Mendes is preparing a new series of biographical films about the legendary band

Newsroom October 16 10:52

Actor James Norton will portray Brian Epstein, the manager of The Beatles, in the upcoming series of biographical films directed by Sam Mendes.

According to Deadline, Norton will take on the role of Epstein, who discovered The Beatles in 1961 and played a pivotal role in their rise to fame until his untimely death in 1967 at the age of just 32. While official details have not yet been released, Sony, which is producing the project, has declined to comment.

Mendes’s ambitious project will consist of four standalone yet interconnected films, each telling the story of The Beatles from the perspective of a different band member. The plan was announced in 2024, with the first films expected to be released in 2028. Mendes has described the concept as “a unified narrative told through four distinct voices.”

This will mark the first time Apple Corps—the company managing The Beatles’ intellectual property—has granted full biographical and musical rights for a scripted film production.
