Preparations are underway in Athens for the October 28 celebrations.

As of early Monday morning (10/27), preparations continue for the student and military parade in Athens, which will take place on the day of the national day, October 28th, tomorrow, Tuesday.

October 28: Preparations complete for the big parade in Athens

Today, the responsible crews are putting the final touches, and everything indicates that within the next few hours, everything will be ready for the parade, as within the day, the decorations and the installation of the podium for the dignitaries in front of the monument of the Unknown Soldier will be completed.

As every year, crowds are expected to attend the large student and military parade.

Syntagma Metro Station Closed from 8 a.m. on October 28 — How Public Transport Will Operate During the Parades

Public transport in Attica will run on a Sunday and public holiday schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28, due to the national celebrations. According to the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA), bus and tram routes will be modified throughout the day to accommodate parade events.

Metro, Tram, and Bus Changes

The Syntagma Metro station will close at 8:00 a.m., with trains passing through without stopping until the conclusion of the parade, according to STASY.

Tram Line 6 (Pikrodafni–Syntagma) will terminate temporarily at Fix from 8:00 a.m., while Line 7 (Asklepieio Voula–Agia Triada Piraeus) will operate only up to the SEF stop from 9:00 a.m. Services will gradually resume after the end of the events.

As for buses, Line 060 will be suspended between 10:00 a.m. and the end of the parade, while Line X95 will run only as far as Katehaki Metro station. Similar disruptions are expected in Piraeus, where tram services to the city centre will also be halted during the parade.

Changes by Municipality

OASA announced the following temporary modifications to bus routes during parade hours:

  • Hlioupoli: Line 237 (7:00–13:45)
  • N. Heraklion: Line 642 (8:00–14:00)
  • Metamorfosi: Line B9 (8:00–14:30)
  • Ilion: Lines 701, 703, 719, 747, 892, A11, B11, and trolleybus 25 (9:00–13:00)
  • Keratsini–Drapetsona: Line 859 (9:00–13:00)
  • Korydallos: Lines 809, 810, 830, 831, 842, 806 (9:00–14:00)
  • Agia Varvara: Lines 830, 837, 892 (9:00–14:00)
  • Penteli–Melissia: Delays on lines 410, 450, 451, 460, 461, 530 (9:30–13:00)
  • Filothei–Psychiko: Lines 036, 140, 402 (10:00–13:00)
  • Vari–Voula–Vouliagmeni: Lines 116, 117, 122, X96 (10:00–13:00)
  • Acharnes: Lines 537, 721, 734, 740, 755, 755B, A10, B10 (10:00–14:00)
  • Perama: Lines 841, 842, 843, 818, 819 (10:00–14:00)
  • Spata–Artemida: Lines 319, 326, 304, 305 (from 10:00 until the end of events)
  • Nea Ionia: Lines A8, 602, 724 (from 10:00 until the end of events)
  • Agios Stefanos: Lines 509, 509B, 535 (10:30–13:30)
  • Pefki: Lines 501, 527 suspended (12:00–13:30)
  • Aigaleo: Lines 750, 801, 807, 813, 829, 836, 852, 856, 865, 866, 876 (during events)

Traffic Restrictions in Athens and Piraeus

Traffic measures will be in force across Attica from early morning, with vehicle circulation halted gradually depending on conditions.

In central Athens, from 9:00 a.m. until the end of the parade, the following streets will be closed:

  • Vassilissis Amalias Avenue (entire length and adjacent side streets)
  • El. Venizelou (Panepistimiou) Avenue (entire length and perpendiculars to the first parallel street)
  • Syngrou Avenue (between Ath. Diakou and Dionysiou Areopagitou)
  • Ath. Diakou Street (entire length)
  • Mitropoleos Street (from 6:00 a.m. until the end of the service at Athens Cathedral)

In Piraeus, closures will apply from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on:

  • 34th Infantry Regiment Street (between Omiridou Skylitsi and El. Venizelou)
  • Heroon Polytechniou Avenue (between El. Venizelou and 2as Merarchias)
  • Vassileos Georgiou Avenue (between Ethn. Makriyianni and Gr. Lambraki)

The Greek Police urge motorists to avoid these areas and follow directions from traffic officers to prevent congestion.
