The Red Cross received the coffins containing the bodies of two hostages from Hamas in Gaza shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday, as part of the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since October 10.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will take custody of the coffins in a brief, simple ceremony before transporting them to Israel. Earlier, the Palestinian organization had announced its intention to hand over the two bodies but did not specify their identities.
According to Israeli sources, there are currently 13 deceased hostages whose remains are still in Gaza, including two American citizens.
So far, Israel has recovered the remains of 15 out of 28 hostages confirmed dead.
