The 42nd Authentic Athens Marathon will take place over the weekend of 8 and 9 November, with around 76,000 runners participating in the big sporting event. Of these, 24,000 runners will start on Sunday 9 November on the route of the Classic Marathon, which ends at the Panathenaic Stadium.

Ahead of the event, extensive traffic regulations and road closures are put into effect throughout the Attica basin from Friday (7/11) until Sunday (9/11).

The Attica Traffic Police has announced in detail the points where vehicle circulation will be suspended, as well as the areas where stopping and parking will be prohibited.

Prohibition of stopping and parking of vehicles:

Archimidous, in the section between Pl. Plastira and M. Mousourou Street, from 06:00 on Saturday 08/11/2025 until 18:30 on Sunday 09/11/2025.

• Determination of the left traffic lane of the direction towards Athens, as a lane of opposite flow (reverse direction), for the buses transporting the athletes,
• Determination of the right traffic lane of the direction towards Athens, as a lane exclusively for organiser vehicles, accredited vehicles and emergency vehicles.
• Determination of a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h in both traffic directions.

Public Transport: How Tram, Electric Rail, Metro will operate

STASY is strengthening the Metro itineraries and increasing the frequency of trains tomorrow Saturday 8/11 and the day after Sunday 9/11 due to the 42nd Authentic Athens Marathon.

To better serve participants, STASY deploys 3 additional trains on each of Metro Lines 2 and 3 and 2 additional trains on Line 1.

On Saturday night to Sunday morning, Metro Lines 2 & 3 and the Tram operate 24 hours, while Metro Line 1 “Kifisia – Piraeus” starts service at 5 in the morning.

On Tram Line 6 “Pikrodafni – Syntagma”, by order of the Hellenic Police, the itineraries will have “Fix” stop as the terminal station from 12 noon on Saturday until 9 pm on Sunday. The Syntagma, Zappeio and Vouliagmenis Ave stops during the above period will not service passengers.
