The 3rd Intergovernmental Conference between Greece & Cyprus is held in Athens: Mitsotakis & Christodoulides on a common line on energy and the Cyprus issue

The aim of the intergovernmental meeting is to intensify cooperation between Athens and Nicosia in areas beyond foreign policy

Newsroom November 11 08:19

The 3rd Greece-Cyprus Intergovernmental Summit takes place on Wednesday in Athens, two years after it was officially established by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Nikos Christodoulides in 2023 with the aim of intensifying cooperation between the two countries and expanding it in a number of areas, beyond foreign policy, where cooperation and coordination between Athens and Nicosia is ongoing.

Environment, Health, Education, Transport, Digital Policy, Housing Policy, Civil Protection, Justice, Culture and Foreign Policy are among the areas of cooperation that will be discussed by the competent ministers of Greece and Cyprus with the aim of taking coordinated actions in the respective sectors, intensifying cooperation and exchanging good practices.

The latest developments in the region, the Cyprus problem following the election of the new leadership of the Turkish-Cypriot community, as well as the assumption by the Cypriot Republic of the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026, are expected to be the focus of the meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides.

Energy is still expected to be discussed, in light of the developments of the last few days. The Prime Minister is expected to brief Christodoulides on the meetings with US officials and the agreements signed in Athens that upgrade Greece‘s role geopolitically and energy-wise in the wider region and as far as Ukraine.
