Taxi strike today (2/12): Drivers across Greece pull the handbrake

All other transport services operate normally

Newsroom December 2 08:35

Greece will be without taxis today, December 2, and tomorrow, December 3, as drivers have declared a new 48-hour nationwide warning strike.

In its announcement, the Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Drivers (POEIATA) states that:
“A 48-hour nationwide warning strike is declared from Tuesday, December 2 at 6:00 a.m. until Thursday, December 4 at 6:00 a.m., with corresponding mobilizations organized by local taxi unions across the country.”

For these two days, there will be no taxi services in Athens or anywhere else in Greece. All other public transport services will operate normally.

The sector’s demands are as follows:

  • Extension of the electric-vehicle requirement until 2035.
  • Measures to address unfair competition caused by multinational ride-hailing apps.
  • Immediate decisions to combat illegal activity in the sector by private rental cars (E.I.X.).
  • Increase in the time-charge rate and minimum fare nationwide.
  • Renegotiation of regulations allowing loaded taxis to use priority lanes.
  • Implementation of all outstanding provisions of the pending omnibus bill.
  • Adjustment of the official fare table.
  • Fair tax treatment.

At the same time, POEIATA calls on “all unions and colleagues across Greece to support the strike locally and be prepared for any development, as this strike is a warning action.”
